About X.509 Digital Certificates
What is a Certificate?
We issue Direct certificates to qualified individuals and organizations who want
to exchange Direct Messages or participate in the HL7 FHIR ecosystem. Your
certificate is a critical part of your digital identity. It is used by others
to secure documents intended for you and also to confirm your identity or
validate digital signatures that you send to them.
We also issue certificates for mutual TLS or other use in other cryptographic signatures,
to secure Direct and HL7 FHIR transactions.
Where do I get one?
Our certificate registration staff will help you complete the necessary forms. After we verify your identity, you will be issued your certificate and can begin using it right away to send and receive Direct Messages, or to secure other transactions. Our certificates are used with our phiMail® HISP Services, and are also compatible with other Direct- and FHIR-enabled products.
How do I get started?
If you are an individual or organization involved in health care, you are
probably eligible to apply. Please sign up to
apply for a certificate on its own or along with a phiMail Direct address.
