EMR Direct Reports 2X Growth in Transactions per Organization Year-Over-Year

Reinforces Leadership in Direct Messaging and FHIR Interoperability

SAN DIEGO, Calif., July 22, 2025 -- EMR Direct, a leading developer of secure health information exchange technologies, today announced that the number of Direct messaging transactions per organization supported by their platform nearly doubled from Q1 2024 when compared to Q1 and Q2 2025. This milestone underscores the value of the platform, as adoption of EMR Direct’s Direct messaging capabilities continues across the industry.

Since first achieving full DirectTrust™ HISP, CA, RA, and EHNAC Privacy & Security Accreditation in January 2014—validating compliance with DirectTrust policies and enabling participation in the nationwide DirectTrust Network—organizations have increasingly relied on EMR Direct’s robust, accredited Direct messaging platform. The accredited infrastructure assures secure, encrypted transmission of Protected Health Information across over 2.8 million Direct endpoints nationwide.

“Our doubled transaction volume shows that health IT vendors and providers are trusting EMR Direct to power an increasing number of secure clinical workflows through Direct Messaging,” said Julie Maas, CEO of EMR Direct. “Built upon our accredited HISP services, customizable SDKs, and seamless web and API integrations, our platform now supports healthcare exchange at an unprecedented scale. We are hopeful that this trend will continue, and that it translates to increased data fidelity and, ultimately, better patient care over time.”

Highlights of EMR Direct’s Direct Messaging Capabilities

  • Custom integration via SDKs — Integrators can embed Direct messaging in Java, .NET, PHP, Node.js, Ruby, and any other framework desired, often within hours using EMR Direct’s integration-focused SDK and lightweight connectors.
  • Web, SMTP/XDR, and API access — Organizations can send and receive secure Direct messages via a simple webmail user experience (phiMail® Web), Epic or MEDITECH via XD standards-based connectivity, a custom integration consistent with the integrator’s brand, or SMTP, with native support for message Context and Event Notifications via the Direct Standard.
  • ONC Certification capability — EMR Direct’s tools support organizations pursuing ONC certification by satisfying Direct messaging and HL7 FHIR criteria; EMR Direct maintains its own H2 certification.
  • Scalable national directory — Access a nationwide provider directory of over 2.8 million Direct addresses for easy address lookup and trusted secure exchange—included with every Direct account provided by EMR Direct.

Continued Platform Innovation

Building on the recent launch of Interoperability Engine 2026—which delivers enhanced HL7 FHIR services including USCDI v3, UDAP™, SMART® v2 support, and ONC API certification readiness—EMR Direct continues to enable seamless, secure cross-platform interoperability. Interop engine’s FHIR platform includes hosted SDKs, developer tools, app store and 3rd party FHIR app developer support, and sample code for app and workflow integration.

Developers and implementers are invited to enroll in EMR Direct’s complimentary Developer Program, including sandbox environments for Direct messaging and FHIR, SDKs and sample code, certification testing guides, and unlimited email technical support. Unlike many vendors, EMR Direct imposes no charges until services are production enabled.
