EMR Direct Achieves DirectTrust™ HISP, CA, RA, and EHNAC Privacy & Security Accreditation

Accreditation ensures compliance with DirectTrust Policy requirements and allows participation in the DirectTrust network

WASHINGTON, DC, January 8, 2024 -- EMR Direct today announced it has achieved full accreditation through the DirectTrust™ Accreditation Program for Health Information Service Providers (HISPs), Certificate Authorities (CAs), Registration Authorities (RAs), and EHNAC Privacy and Security. DirectTrust is a non-profit healthcare industry alliance focused on furthering trust in health data exchange through standards, accreditation, and other services.

EMR Direct’s platform allows developers to easily add Direct Messaging, HL7 FHIR, or IHE query-based exchange services into their products, enabling more effective use of health information across the care continuum, while meeting industry requirements for privacy and security, and without special effort by customers or pairwise legal agreements. “Through continuous innovation that includes features like our REST API integration model for Direct, EMR Direct reduces barriers to entry for those wishing to adopt sophisticated technology for secure health information exchange. Re-accreditation of our Privacy and Security practices and our HISP, CA, and RA services signals to the industry that our product suite continues to include a level of compliance that brings confidence to exchanges leveraging our systems. Securing healthcare transactions at scale and improving care delivery at an affordable cost are at the core of our mission,” said Julie Maas, CEO of EMR Direct.

EMR Direct’s HISP, CA, and RA services were audited against a series of technical, physical, and operational criteria and found to be fully in compliance with the Direct Standard™ and the requirements of the DirectTrust Security and Trust framework. Launched in March 2010, the Direct Project was created to specify a simple, secure, scalable, standards-based way for participants to send authenticated, encrypted health information directly to known, trusted recipients over the internet. Today DirectTrust is an American National Standards Institute accredited Standards body and the custodian of the Direct Standard®. HISP, CA, and RA Accreditation ensures compliance with policy and industry standards to be able to participate in the DirectTrust network.

“DirectTrust HISP, CA, and RA accreditation certifies that an organization has established and upheld a superior level of trust for its stakeholders, which is a significant distinction. Kudos to EMR Direct’s commitment to maintaining the highest standards in privacy, security and confidentiality,” said DirectTrust President and CEO Scott Stuewe.
